The Boy 03:14
When you were a little boy You had thoughts and love and toys You had your whole life to live You had one good life to give When you were a day old I held your body as it grew cold I felt your bones they were growing old In time your soul will be sold You feet were raised high on a bed in the sun From all around they came to see the one Who gave them hope and controlled their dreams It wasn’t long until you stole their screams On the day that you died We held your body and stayed inside Until we saw that we were wrong Your lungs were swallowing air all along They fed you water and gasoline Lit you on fire so punishing You had a hand and a fist to raise With tongue unswirling a sanctioning We hid you underneath the earth for a while While there your body grew and changed somehow When you came back you were now everywhere Into our lungs we breathe you are the air On the day that you died We held your body and stayed inside Until we saw that we were wrong Your lungs were swallowing air all along

I wish there was a way for you not to die tonight But every amber of light burns itself to ash and slowly fades away We thought we had it right when we buried you away for awhile But we found an empty hole and a parade of soldiers floating to the sky You were much more than a myth, how your body dissolved into the sea And I never knew if I should kiss your feet or rip apart your limbs and dedahdedah It’s really much too strange to believe that you could love everyone And when you showed me how it would end it was more than I could comprehend so I lit you on fire dadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadaaaaaaaaaa You said, “It’s true we never die- We dissolve as our bodies collide With the earth and the shit and the dirt and the trees and the flies, But before you get there you need to learn to survive, And the flames in your heart, they grow so incredibly high” And we sing la dee da dee da dee da dee da dee da...

Did you see the sun rise? Did you see it with your eyes? Now the sun is surprising How it glows on the horizon Bodies breaking down again and they’re rising And you and I will know, the world's on fire Did you see the sun rise? Did you see it with your eyes? Floor is fast to come, so surprising It slowly creeps above the horizon And falling, breaking free it’s still rising And you and I will know, the world's on fire

Up against a window facing backwards Gravity’s a widow around here And sometimes a widow’s left with nothing And sometimes widows are the ones who died Mountains were nothing but a dream Same thing you always promised her You gave me a rock to climb out under Tied it to my feet and call it free Trees that fall When nobody’s watching Make a sound Whether or not you’re bluffing Heard it said he was sitting in the corner You were cracking ribs off one by one Goddamn he said if that guy can do it why can’t I It’s truly that you'll never be at home Trees that fall When nobody’s watching Make a sound Whether or not you’re bluffing Mountains were nothing but a dream Same thing you always promised her You gave me a rock to climb out under Tied it to my feet and call it free

You’ve lived a lonely, lonely life, it’s true You’ve got the better part of me, you do I was a wreckage on the shore above your land When I met you I was carving all your names into my hand You were a giant with the hands of sullen stone I was a little girl just learning how to roam About the towns and homes I never dared to go Before the ground began to shake and swallowed them all whole Now I am an alien, a stranger in your land “It isn’t mine,” you’d say over again without demand “I’d burnish idols for your love with my two swollen hands, Or cut them off and offer you these stumps as my last stand…” Ooooh oh oh, uh uh uh uh oh Ooooh oh oh, uh uh uh uh oh On the morning when they came so swift and strong The line of sick and lonely stretched beneath the sun All the nightmares and the things they could not sin Sucking all the life and love out of your waxy skin that ended up dripping all over the floor And when that thick bright smell and matches struck became the air It washed over your lovely face and rippled everywhere The one who stole their dreams became the nightmare of their days And up his flames arose to meet the god that you became And on and on I ran until the setting of the sun… The sun is setting high, high upon the town, it burns out their eyes The sun the sun is setting high, high upon the podium from which you stole their cries And when the podium was empty the traitors lost their mind they couldn’t sleep without your love to quell their tired cries and the fires that burned all night were like an emblem of your final dying flight

Carpenteria 03:35
I’m on my own sewn up and kept at bay I sheltered you well I can’t shelter you All I left alone is two thousand miles from home All I perceive is a great big believing in me On an ocean way I can wait today Alive for one day there is fire beneath all the waves And I am okay, ready to be on my way

about

This album was originally intended to be released last year. The middle four songs were written after we were asked by Alex Douglas, guitar player for Columbus/Athens band She Bears, if he could record us as part of one of his final projects for his audio engineering course work. So we went into the studio for the first time, tried to record all these songs, and they came out less than we expected because we ran out of time. So we sat on them and then decided to do something with them, so we re-recorded them at the old house on Pacemont and did the drums in Robert's basement again. Hopefully they are better now.
